You have probably been in treatment before and have found it was not as helpful as you had imagined. You are looking for advanced work where you will have breakthroughs in your life, and you want a therapist with significant ability and genuine compassion.
Results Start With
You feeling safe and hopeful that your pain will be eased. You will be educated in the therapy process so your treatment decisions are informed. Our therapy builds upon your personal strengths- from planning to execution, to monitoring and feedback. You design the life you want to lead, anywhere from symptom relief all the way to profound personal change. What matters most to you is what matters most to us. You will not experience any upselling, pre-programmed one size fits all services. You’ve probably had enough of that.
Because you are reading this, you understand that therapy is an investment, helping you to overcome, generate a long-term view of what life should be for yourself and in relation to your loved ones. And as an investment, you deserve dividends, not mere talk. You will understand your needs and desires and how to put into place the thinking patterns, skills and resources to bring them to life in measurable ways daily.
Results Require a Hybrid Capability
You have likely experienced therapists who hold themselves out as having the answer and that their particular school of thought can lead to resolution of your discomfort. Therapists often “see what they have learned” rather than “learn from what they see.” Shoe-horning you into a particular understanding or area of training, does not generally bring relief to you. A Hybridized approach must be used to bring to bear all the capabilities, technologies and models that will offer specific results for the issues you bring to the table. There is no “one best” therapy, and it is likely that the various dimensions of what troubles you will require various therapies. You have probably been “sold” what the therapist is selling and you are not fully satisfied. It is a lot like being “put in a car” at a dealership even though it is not likely to meet your needs – but perhaps stress, pressure or desperation leads you to accept it. It will never deliver the results you desire.
How We Will Work Together
Everything you do with us will be specifically for you. In other words, you will not be taken down a road that doesn’t lead to your desired result – no rabbit holes. We work for your result, and we design a specific, custom hybrid treatment plan with you to get us there. Sometimes in person, sometimes virtually, sometimes in an intensive session, sometimes more frequently and sometimes with ample time in between to digest our work. We can integrate activities you love in our work, and it is not uncommon to walk, hike or use a lovely outdoor venue to sit. We are as flexible as you, and if a computer screen or office setting isn’t always for you, we are there with you.
Virtual therapy is something that might be convenient for you, and it has proven to be very effective. There is a good deal of research that points to the increased willingness to participate for people paralyzed by anxiety, depression or other issues. This bears itself out in our work. Sometimes we can get deeper into an issue virtually because the physical separation can reduce stress and allow for a freer flow between us. This in combination with face to face has been very effective for our clients. We can feel it out and determine what is best as we move forward. Again, what matters most to you, matters most to us.
Many therapists only began working virtually during COVID and they, and their clients, struggled with the unexpected shift. We have been providing and fine tuning virtual session methodology for over 15 years. You will receive an accessible, effective and meaningful experience that we will create together.
Many of the hybrid therapies we might employ, such as EMDR, somatic approaches and skill development are also very effective online. Generally, you will find that if you are a good fit with our practice, you will enjoy full flexibility that comes with virtual work in combination with face to face… probably meeting in person once or twice every 4-5 weeks. But, you will determine what is best. Again, no cookie cutters here.
Results YOU Seek
The results you seek will be made clearly defined, observable and measurable. It is one thing to say I want to feel happier, for example, but to define what that specifically looks like is a different animal altogether. It could be that happiness is expressed through better and more in-depth conversation concerning intimate issues with a spouse or loved one. Perhaps it is feeling recognized by someone who you feel is not aware of you in the way you wish? What would the actual behavior or attitude be that would serve as evidence you are achieving this result? How can you be observant enough to perceive the gradual progress? What skills can you develop or improve so you can see through the clouds? When you are upset and triggered, how can you still see the evidence of progress? What is it you can do “in the moment” to reconstitute your awareness? These are examples of the questions you should have for any therapist. If they are not providing this level of specificity, then the results you get will probably be those you are not seeking. And, are you and the therapist holding these goals to account, or are you just coasting?
